Hundreds Throng to the New Venue at Sancoale for Noven
The Novena in honour of St Joseph Vaz began with traditional fervour and devotion on Sunday as hundreds of pilgrims from all over Goa thronged the new venue at Sancaole where the ruins of the old Church of Sancaole exist adjoining the River Zuari.
The nine-day preparation (Novena) for the Feast of St. Joseph Vaz, the Patron Saint of the Archdiocese of Goa & Daman, which will be celebrated on the 16th of January, 2018, got off to a joyful and pious start at the new venue at the Old Church of Sancaole (See adjoining Map for directions to the Venue).
The 2500-capacity pandal was overflowing with devotees for all the five masses held on Sunday. The devotees were pleasantly surprised with all the arrangements made for the Novena and Feast at the new site despite the paucity of time and the manifold hurdles. Many devotees expressed their satisfaction at the traffic and other arrangements and felt the new venue was ideal for an event of this magnitude considering the ample space for the Celebration and other related infrastructure especially parking areas which were adjoining the venue, unlike the past. Devotees expressed their utmost happiness at the elaborate arrangements made by the Traffic Police, Security agencies and the provision made by the Church authorities for the Spiritual needs of Devotees such as Confessions, Kissing of the statue of St Joseph Vaz as well as the material needs such as availability of Toilets, Stalls, Refreshments, etc. The feast will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 16.
The Mass timings for the Novena will be 6.00 am, 7.30 am, 9.15 am, 4 pm (all Konkani) and 6 pm (English). On Sunday (14th Jan) the morning mass will be at 7.15 am instead of 7.30 am. The Feast day masses on January 16 will be celebrated at 5 am, 6 am, 7 am, 8 am, 10 am (Feast Mass), 4 pm and 5.30 pm.
